EXPECTATIONS The Candidate Assessment and the Standard Career Assessment progams follow similar formats:
-
You can expect to meet with a career counselor during the morning of the FIRST DAY of your visit, beginning about 9:00 a.m.
-
You will have a short break at about 10:30 a.m.
-
After the break, you will be asked to complete one or possibly two more inventories that are psychological in nature and thus administered at the Center.
-
When these have been completed, there will be a lunch break. There are several small restaurants within walking distance and others a short drive away. If you bring your lunch, you may use the Center's refrigerator and microwave to store and prepare your food.
-
After lunch, you will meet with a clinical psychologist if you are undertaking a Candidate program, a Clergy Development program, or a Personal Development program. If you are in another program you may resume working with your counselor.
-
There may be some kind of writing or reflection assignment to complete during the evening. Your counselor will advise you if this the case.
-
On the SECOND DAY, you will meet with the counselor during both the morning and afternoon sessions.
-
If your spouse or partner is participating in the program, this is the time he or she will want to be at the Center to participate.
-
You will be talking with the career counselor about all of your test results and
-
Working on future plans and recommendations.
Candidate Assessment, Clergy Development and Personal Career Development programs finish at about 3:30 p.m. on both days.
The Sojourner, Direction-Finder and Sabbatical Planning programs as well as the Retirement Workshops have somewhat different schedules and do not include meetings with a psychologist. Group candidate assessments are two days in length and follow a slightly different schedule that provides for each person to have a private meeting with a clinical psychologist and both group and individual time with the career counselor.
If you have particular time constraints related to travel, please let us know, and we will try to accommodate any special needs.
If there are accessibility issues (our office is on the second floor), please let us know so that we can arrange to use first-floor space for our meetings.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Relationships with Center personnel are held in strict confidence. No information about you will be released to any person or agency without review and written permission.
COSTS AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Contact us for information about costs of particular programs. Fees can be charged to MasterCard or Visa. All fees are due at the completion of the program and before any report is released. Continuing education funds may be available from your organization to help with the cost.
FOLLOW-UP
Follow-up sessions can be negotiated following the conclusion of your program if continued support from the Center’s staff is desired. These sessions are typically booked for one or more hours at an hourly rate.
REPORTS
Only certain programs have formal reporting requirements. If you are a lay person or clergy completing a Standard Career Assessment, you will be given copies of many of the assessments to take home with you. If you are a candidate for ordination, or if you are clergy referred to the Center for a specific reason, a formal report will be written by your career counselor. Requirements and formats for these reports vary by denomination.
When should I expect my report? First of all, be sure you told your career counselor that you need a report, and if you have a deadline, make sure you let the career counselor know. You should receive your report in about three weeks, unless the career counselor works out some other schedule with you. The report will come to you as a confidential draft.
Who sees the report? You are the only person who sees the draft report. You may discuss with the career counselor any questions about your report or corrections related to factual errors. You will receive a release form to sign that tells who should receive the report. The final report and a copy of the release form will be sent to those you name. Please do not write any notes on the release form, since it will be enclosed with the report. You will receive a copy of the final report.
What if I don't get my report? Call or e-mail us if you do not receive a draft report within 30 days of your program. We will be happy to check on it. Keep this information sheet nearby, so you will be able to reach us if you have any questions. Remember, your denominational contact will not get a report until you have seen a draft and signed a release form.
What if I don't need a report right away? It is to your benefit to complete the report process described above within six months after your program at the Center. Otherwise, we may ask you to come in for a follow-up appointment in order to update your report.
You will be charged $85/hour for a follow-up appointment, or $90/hour if it has been more than two years since your appointment. If it has been more than one year, we may ask you to repeat some of the work connected with your original program. If it is beyond three years, we will likely ask you to repeat the program. These costs are not usually subsidized by your denomination. |
